Private House Extension Danderyd
This project involves the renovation and extension of a villa in Danderyd, originally built in the 1950s and subsequently altered through several additions over time. The ambition has been to reorganize the house into a more coherent whole while adapting it to the needs of contemporary family life
A key move in the project was the relocation of the kitchen from its previous position at the back of the house to the front, taking over what was formerly the dining room. This shift redefines the internal logic of the home and establishes a stronger relationship between everyday functions and the garden.
A new extension is introduced, orienting itself towards the garden. It features a rendered exterior and finely detailed, mullioned windows. Conceived almost as a modern orangery, this space accommodates the new dining room—generous in scale and intended for social gatherings and long, shared meals.
A large new terrace wraps around the front of the house, connecting the extension with the existing structure and extending the living spaces outdoors. It creates a sequence of places for both social interaction and quiet retreat, strengthening the relationship between the house, the garden, and its surroundings.
Towards the rear of the house, a new private wing is created, containing a master bedroom, walk-in closet, and study. This addition provides a more secluded and calm environment, clearly separating private and social functions within the home.
On the upper floor, the existing bathroom is expanded to better serve the family’s three children, improving both capacity and functionality.
Throughout the project, careful consideration has been given to balancing the layered history of the house with a clear and contemporary architectural language—bringing together past and present into a unified and livable whole.
