Private House Enskede Gård

This project is a proposal for the renovation and extension of a typical 1930s single-family home located in Enskede Gård, south of Stockholm. Designed for a young family of three, the aim was to preserve the original character of the house and its period-specific details while respecting the historic surroundings and blending seamlessly into the neighborhood.

The design carefully retains original materials and architectural features, ensuring the house maintains its authentic expression. At the same time, the layout has been adapted to suit contemporary living, creating a functional and welcoming home for modern family life.

The new extension stretches out toward the garden at the rear of the house, opening up to a generous outdoor terrace that continues from the new living room. The kitchen is relocated and becomes the heart of the home, with visual and physical connections to the surrounding spaces. Here, a large kitchen island and a fireplace create a warm and social gathering point for the family. Upstairs, three bedrooms are introduced, including a spacious master bedroom with a private terrace overlooking the lush garden.

The street-facing façade is largely preserved in its original form. A new entrance porch with twin staircases and mullioned windows provides a welcoming arrival space with ample storage. The exterior color palette consists of soft shades of yellow and green, reinforcing the house’s historic charm while giving it a fresh and contemporary expression.
